Hockey welcome town

Welcome to Shinagawa-shuku!

Oi Hockey Stadium is located within the Tokyo city ward called Shinagawa. As an important stopover from Tokyo on one of Japan’s main travel routes, the Shinagawa area was historically a busy hub for travellers and merchants. Nearby Tokyo Bay also provided water traffic and seafood resouces. Even today there are still remnants of this history, including famous shrines and temples, and a few old shops.

Shinagawa Jinja(shrine)

This shrine in the north-Shinagawa district is one of 10 Tokyo shrines where prayers are offered for the protection of Tokyo and people’s peace and security. The shrine was established by shogun Yoritomo in 1187 to enshrine the guardian deity for safety at sea. On the premises are many sights to see such as the Shinagawa Fuji which is a small mound representing Mt.Fuji to worship, and the “ichiryumanbai” spring where legend has it that washing money with the water and then subsequently using that money will enable one to receive substantially multiplied money in return.

Kita-shinagawa Spa
Tenjinyu

The spa is famous for its dark amber – almost pitch black – hot waters. Particles of decomposed plants from the Paleozoic Era (more than 250 million years ago) permeated the groundwater here, giving it this peculiar color, making it rich in minerals, and causing it to feel very smooth to the touch. This hot spring spot is the perfect place to visit after exploring the Shinagawa area.

“Godzilla” set his first step here

“Godzilla” is the world famous Japanese movie and was remade also in Hollywood. In its first version, Gozilla born in the Pacific set his first step here, on Yatsuyama Over pass.
